As a backer of Technolust, I have been selected as a potential candidate to receive my own POD (PERSONAL ON-DEMAND) recommendation engine from BODY/MIND/CHANGE. I was working when I received the invitation mail to download the POD 4.4 software and was wondering what the heck it was about the whole morning. Especially after reading this :THE 4.4 PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO TEST YOUR VIABILITY AS A HOST FOR POD. SOME USERS HAVE REPORTED DISTURBING SIDE EFFECTS. THESE MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: JUMP SCARES, DISTURBING “CRONENBERGIAN” VISIONS, SLIGHT DISORIENTATION, AND OVERWHELMING HAPPINESS.The Occulus Rift part of David Cronenberg’s Body/Mind/Change Redux is a nice VR Trailer that puts you in a chair that travels through several scenes inpired by Cronenbergs movies. The director explains what his fictionnal implant he named POD is all about.SYNOPSIS: Body/Mind/Change Redux (the complete digital extension of TIFF’s exhibition David Cronenberg: Evolution), immerses audiences in a “Cronenbergian” world inspired by the directors films. It has been re-imagined for the 21st century and brought to life across three platforms – the Web, the real world, and the Oculus Rift. Produced by CFC Media Lab, in co-production with TIFF, and starring David Cronenberg, Body/Mind/Change Redux is the first Web interactive experience that not only generates a 3D-printed object based on data collected from the player, but also viscerally places her in the world of Cronenberg through virtual reality.I am not sure if this VR trailer will lead to a new movie or a longer VR experience but I like the fact that a Director like Cronenberg uses VR and promotes its usage for fictions. Speaking of virtual reality I think I ll rewatch ExistenZ tonight … 🙂
